‘Nick Nack’ sails around Britain

Nick and Gail Leaver cast off on 11 May 2017 to sail their Dufour 325 ‘Nick Nack’ around Britain in leisurely style. They will be cruising up the east coast and then down the Caledonian Canal before meandering back to Port Solent later in the year.

Gail has been sending regular e-postcards logging their journey and their escapades on and off the water. Read on …. !

Newlyn harbour was a good shelter from the worst of the stormy weather, rain and high winds and we ended up we staying for 4 days. The harbour wall at low water has an arrow marking cut into the stone indicating the Ordnance Survey (Newlyn Datum), used as the Zero level on all OS maps.

From gale force gusts to becalmed – a typical autumn rally!

We only mustered enough interest in the autumn rally weekend to charter one boat, so the planned ‘Points Makes Prizes’ challenge was postposed until next year. But the nine on board were up for a last sail of the season and we met up at Hamble Point marina on the evening of Friday 6 October and boarded Reunion, a very spacious 46ft Bavaria cruiser. Our crew comprised Jeremy and Catherine, Stuart and Mags, Richard Aust, Kevin Ludbrook, Jeanne Frazer plus Fran and myself.

Spring Rally 2017 and Rose Bowl Challenge

Four yachts and 17 club members joined the Oxted Offshore Spring Rally to Poole over the weekend of Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 April. The weather was kind with plenty of sunshine and no rain, but fickle winds of just F2 or F3 set the scene for an interesting Rose Bowl Challenge!

Happy diners at the Oxted Offshore Annual Dinner on Saturday 1 April at Tandridge Golf Club

This years Annual Dinner took place at Tandridge Golf Club (with grateful thanks to Bob Perry) on Saturday 1 April and was attended by 40 members and guests. A great time was had by all and many thanks go to Richard and Sharon for all their hard work in putting the evening together.

Southern Ionian Islands Cruise – early July

Bob Perry is organising a cruise around the Southern Ionian Islands in Greece at the beginning of July for one week. Dates are still to be fixed, but departure date will be sometime around 3 July.

If anybody would like to join in Bob can organise a bigger yacht or a second charter, depending on numbers.

Summer Rally to Bembridge – July 2016

11 members of Oxted Offshore and 4 boats cast off for Bembridge on the Isle of White during the last weekend in July for the Oxted Offshore Summer Rally. With low water occurring late morning on Saturday it was a little challenging getting over the bar at Bembridge but it was worth it to discover such a lovely little harbour. The marina staff and facilities were good and we managed to get all boats moored for around 18:00 in time for Commodores Cocktails on Degree of Latitude.

Oxted Offshore Annual Dinner – March 2015

This years Annual Dinner took place at Tandridge Golf club and was attended by 40 members. This glittering occasion gives Oxted Offshore members the opportunity to wear something other than shorts and deck shoes, to warmly welcome new members, and to deal with the ‘formalities’.
